The 2019 Cheltenham Festival is now less than three weeks away and as always it will be the Gold Cup that takes the lion share of the attention
The blue-riband race of the entire jumps season, the Cheltenham Gold Cup is the one that all the trainers and jockeys want to win and that is certainly the case for Willie Mullins.
The legendary Closutton handler has just about done it all in the sport but so far he has tried and failed on a multiple occasions to win the Gold Cup. The Irish Champion will be hoping that he can finally put that drought to bed this season with four horses set to be saddled under the Mullins name.
Savills Chase winner Kemboy will perhaps be the leading challenger for Mullins but he won't be alone with Al Boum Photo, Bellshill and Invitation Only all set to take their chance in the big race.
Bellshill is fresh off a taking success in the Irish Gold Cup, whilst Invitation Only impressed when winning the Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park last time out and has long been considered a classy animal.
Al Boum Photo picked up a listed contest at Tramore on January 1st and could also be considered an each-way contender for the big race.
All eyes will now be on Ruby Walsh as he gets first pick of the four runners for the famous trainer, with Paul Townend likely to be on the second string.
Mullins has gone close in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in the past with horses like Djakadam and Florida Pearl, but could this finally be the year when one of the key figures in the sport finally gets his hands on the most prestigious trophy on the calendar?
