This weekend is a massive steeping stone on the road to the 2019 Cheltenham Festival with Trials Day always a spectacular meeting.
The great and good of the equine world will be at Prestbury Park on Saturday for the last meeting of the season at the venue before the Festival, and there are a host of star names set to take their chance.
The first race of the day will be the Triumph Hurdle Trial as the best juveniles in training in the United Kingdom put their big race claims on the line against their peers.
The ante-post betting for the Triumph Hurdle is far from straight forward which makes this trial contest even more important with the big race now less than eight weeks away.
A total of 16 runners have been entered at the five-day stage including a number of potentially exciting individuals. Chief among those is the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Torpillo who impressed at Sandown earlier this month and looks like a horse with masses of class.
Potential opponents include Adjali who was 2nd in the Grade 1 at Chepstow just after Christmas and Our Power, who was last seen winning at Newbury for Alan King and Wayne Hutchinson.
Top Irish trainer Gordon Elliott is always a man to follow when he brings over a horse before March and he could decide to let Chief Justice take his chance in this one. The Cheveley Park Stud owned horse was 2nd in the Grade 2 at Leopardstown on Boxing Day and how he performs here could well help punters pick over the Irish and UK juveniles.
The Triumph Hurdle Trial always throws up a good winner and the entries for the race this weekend suggest that trend will continue.
