Kempton racecourse, the brainchild of St H Hyde a south London Businessman. On a carriage ride by the Kempton moors in 1872, he saw the land and bought it which became the racecourse soon after. London's closest racecourse is set in Sunbury-on-Thames near Richmond and stages both Flat and Jump racing throughout the year.
The feature race meeting of the year is the traditional Christmas Festival on December 26 and 27 made famous by Desert Orchid winning the King George Chase 4 times. You can see the monument built in his honour when you visit the paddock at the course. In the summer, Wednesday themed evening racing is a popular way of relaxing and unwinding with friends.
